In its recent “Conclusions on an EU Industrial Policy Strategy: A Vision For 2030”, the EU Council encouraged all actors involved to make further progress with regard to inclusiveness, legal certainty and predictability aiming at a rapid delivery of the harmonised standards and their benefits to enterprises and consumers.
Our annual General Assembly was held on 12 June 2019 in Brussels, bringing together representatives of our member organisations of the ECOS network including our new members.
Our annual conference took place on 13 June and gathered over 100 participants. This year, we focused on designing plastic for circularity.
On 6 June, ECOS Executive Director Justin Wilkes attended the CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies in Bucharest, with the aim to promote inclusiveness and environmental concerns to the European standardisation organisations.

Earlier this year, France decided to ban titanium dioxide (TiO2, known as food additive E171) from all food products set to come into force by 1 January 2020. The ban follows on from the ongoing politically difficult evaluation of Ti02 through chemicals regulation processes, where France has played a lead role in the evaluation of the substance.
