ECOS participates in the development of the latest draft Standardisation Requests for ecodesign and energy labelling

The European Commission approached the European Standardisation Organisations (ESOs) with the first draft Standardisation Requests (SR) to develop harmonised standards for two product categories: servers and data storage products on the one hand, and dishwashers, washing machines and washer-dryers on the other.

We are happy to announce that these Standardisation Requests include resource efficiency aspects for the very first time! In order to involve stakeholders within CEN-CENELEC and consolidate their views, the ad hoc groups – SRAHG – have been put in place, with our active participation.

In addition to the product-specific comments we submitted, ECOS also raised our concern on the new Standardisation Request template used by the Commission. The new text seems to be offering more flexibility to ESOs, especially when it comes to deadlines, repeating in several places that deadlines can be changed at any moment. This, of course, is bound to cause further delays in standard delivery, slowing down the already lengthy process.

ECOS is co-funded by the European Commission and EFTA Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or EISMEA. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
