2020 was a year like no other. The pandemic forced thousands of organisations, including ECOS, to switch to remote work for most of the year. But COVID-19 was not the only problem we faced last year. While people focused on the disruption in their daily lives, the planet had its warmest year on record.

With governments concentrating on weathering the storm, it was crucial for the environmental organisations to remind policymakers and standardisers that climate crisis was not going away. Through the turmoil, we kept advocating for a green recovery with ambitious policies and robust standards at the heart of any economic stimulus following the COVID-19 pandemic.

ECOS – its staff, experts, and members – remained united and motivated throughout 2020, making it a very successful year. Our calls to extend the scope of the Ecodesign Directive were finally heard; we raised the ambition of a new set of material efficiency standards for appliances and ICT; and positioned ECOS on the built environment map with a series of valuable publications and a highly successful event.

What is more, we kept growing steadily as an organisation – welcoming new members, reaching 19 staff, expanding our focus on key environmental topics, and most importantly increasing our impact.

Learn about our successes, take a look at our year in a nutshell, and go back to some of our publications and webinars – everything is now available in our Annual Review 2020!
