ECOS participates in the development of the standardisation request for TVs and screens
ECOS asked for additional testing methods for measuring screen luminance and energy efficiency of digital signage screens as part of our response to the first draft version of the standardisation request put forward by the European Commission for electronic displays.
CEN-CENELEC is currently reviewing the draft version of the European Commission’s standardisation request for a set of new harmonised standards for electronic displays. To that end, the standardisers created an ad-hoc group, in which ECOS is taking active part.
We submitted detailed comments on the first draft version of this set of standards, aiming to ensure that they are both fit for purpose and future-proof, and calling for additional measurement methods to be developed to assess screen luminance as well as the energy efficiency of digital signage displays, among other things.
The comments submitted will be discussed with the members of the ad-hoc advisory group within CEN-CENELEC in September, before being passed on to the European Commission, and will inform the Standardisation Request which is expected to be published later this year.
The new standards are meant to support the recently adopted ecodesign and energy labelling requirements for our TVs and monitors, and to provide certainty as regards transitional testing methods before commonly agreed European standards are developed.
