Vacancy – Global Engagement Trainee

We are looking for a highly motivated Global Engagement trainee to learn about environmental policy and standards whilst supporting our Global Engagement team in Nairobi and gain valuable experience working in a dynamic and influential environmental NGO. Apply before 25 May 2026.

About ECOS

ECOS is an international NGO with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly standards, policies, and laws. We ensure the environmental voice is heard when these tools are developed and drive change by providing expertise to policymakers, standardisers and industry players, leading to the implementation of strong environmental principles. Our successes include advancing technical solutions across key topics such as industrial decarbonisation, clean energy, circular economy, and nature protection. ECOS is headquartered in Brussels, with a regional office in Nairobi and has an exceptional team of 35+ staff supported by a network of over 50 technical experts and 60 member organisations.

Your main tasks:

  • Support implementation of environmental projects in Africa including research and stakeholder engagement
  • Support in ECOS Africa network development including partners and members recruitment and engagement
  • Support in drafting project reports and communication materials
  • Logistics and coordination support in ECOS Africa events
  • Assist with fundraising and administrative tasks
  • Assist in the overall delivery of ECOS Africa programme initiatives and core objectives

Skills and experience required:

  • Early career professional with at least a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental management or a related degree
  • Relevant professional experience (including internships), preferably with NGOs, institutions, consultancies, or companies working in the environmental field is desirable
  • Knowledge of environmental topics such as, but not limited to, planetary boundaries , industrial decarbonisation circular economy, nature restoration and sustainable production and consumption.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in multicultural environments and good interpersonal skills
  • Good networking skills
  • Ability and willingness to learn technical concepts across a broad range of environmental topics
  • Fluent written and spoken English is a must. Knowledge of French is an asset

  • Understanding of national, regional and international standardisation organisations and technical standards development .
  • Digital skills and literacy in online collaboration tools.
