Methane emissions
ECOS is looking for experts in the field of methane emissions to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions. Apply before 09/03/2026!
Methane emissions from oil, gas, and coal operations must be reduced urgently. For the first time the EU sets legally binding requirements to reduce this potent greenhouse gas through the EU Methane Regulation. It is crucial to make sure environmental ambition is built into both the technical standards and legislation that will shape how methane is reduced in practice.
Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth technical and scientific knowledge on technical requirements for methane reductions in the energy sector, methods for measurement, reporting and verification of emissions, calculation methodologies for methane intensity, standards on venting and flaring, including technologies and non‑emitting alternatives for equipment, and/or leak detection and repair.
The nominated experts will
- Participate in technical meetings of CEN (possibly ISO), and relevant EU policy groups to promote ECOS position.
- Prepare technical input through official comments and contribution to ECOS position papers.
- Report to and liaise with the responsible ECOS Programme Manager.
- Exchange information with ECOS member organisations and other experts when needed.
ECOS offers
- A daily fee for preparation of meetings, participation and reporting, as well as other relevant tasks.
- Reimbursement of travel costs.
- Per diem to cover accommodation and subsistence costs.
