We are looking for a campaigning intern to help us Assist Programme Managers’ advocacy work by monitoring, analysing and reporting on policy & standardisation developments in the field of Right to Repair.
The game console industry has proposed an update of its Self-Regulatory Initiative (SRI) under the Ecodesign Directive, following an independent review study completed in 20191. The position paper summarises the views of environmental NGOs in relation to the revision and puts forward changes that are essential in order for the proposed SRI to constitute a genuine first step towards the level of ambition expected from an ecodesign measure.
With only 35% of electronic waste in the EU being collected and treated properly, the detrimental effects of our throwaway culture are ever more apparent - and we have had enough. Studies have shown that a great majority of EU consumers would rather repair their goods than buy new ones. The time is right to ensure that products placed on the EU market are designed to be durable and can be repaired when broken.
