STEP – For accurate measurement methods

tvAs part of a small consortium analysing the efficacy of current product measurement methods, ECOS continues to provide expertise on the European standardisation development, as well as the latest testing techniques, regulatory developments, and market surveillance activities in Europe. Focusing on televisions, dishwashers, and fridges, the project aims at establishing whether defeat devices may be present in these products, or whether the measurement methods used actually reflect the product’s true consumption in normal use.

This project follows on from reports of the exploitation of loopholes in television testing, as seen in 2015 – as well as working in close collaboration with U.S colleagues following investigations from the NRDC.
Results are expected to be published in late 2016 to early 2017.
