Position Paper: Set-up of the EU Product Database for Energy-Labelled Products – Conditions for Success
Following the revision of the Energy Labelling framework in 2017, the EU has decided to set-up an EU database for products with an Energy Label. ECOS and the Coolproducts campaign have been calling for this database to be put in place for many years, and is now being consulted on how it should be set up and be fully operational by 1 January 2019.
In ECOS view, the database has the potential to become a highly valuable tool to monitor products sold on the European market and assess the impact of regulations on these. We believe that the architecture of the database will condition its success, and needs to fulfil a number of conditions for it to be useful for market surveillance authorities (MSAs), consumers and policy makers.
