New planning for the revision of the boilers and water heaters regulations
The existing ecodesign and energy labelling regulations for boilers and water heaters were adopted in 2015, and the review was initially planned for 2018.
The planning has been delayed, however, by a number of years, as several issues still need to be tackled in the review process, including setting stricter ecodesign requirements for the emissions of certain pollutants.
The preparatory study for this review was concluded in 2019 but a number of outstanding issues remained. In order to tackle this, the Commission contracted a consultancy to perform an additional study focusing on the calculations on which the energy label is based, the case of water heaters, the role of hydrogen, as well as test methods for heat pumps. The calendar and details of this study are available on a dedicated website and the process is likely to take up to two more years.
ECOS will follow this process very closely as these particular product groups represent the largest potential for energy and CO2 savings among all the products regulated by ecodesign.
