Member Updates | HOP releases a new report – Sustainability of products, a strategic challenge for businesses

hopOn the occasion of a workshop on product durability, ECOS member organisation HOP, Halte à l’Obsolescence Programmée, released a report showing the many reasons for businesses to make products designed to last longer. You can read the full report here [in French only].

ECOS Director Laura Degallaix participated in a panel discussion aimed to review the ambitions of decision-makers at a national, European and international level. She called on the French authorities to speak up in the on-going discussions at European level on durability and resource efficiency requirements for products covered by the Ecodesign Directive. In a mapping of Member States’ views on resource efficiency, ECOS showed that the French government was adopting a rather neutral position in Brussels which did not reflect their ambition with the national Roadmap on Circular Economy (Feuille de Route pour l’Economie Circulaire).

The HOP workshop was also a perfect occasion to announce the creation of a “Durability Club” (“Club de la Durabilité”) made up of industry front-runners willing to engage to make products more durable, repairable and reusable. It was also an opportunity to launch a new website enabling consumers to compare the lifespan of products and make informed decisions, and provide tips on how to use products to make them last longer: https://www.produitsdurables.fr.
