ECOS | Environmental Coalition on Standards

23 August 2021

Meet our new member from Ireland!

We are excited to welcome a new member to the ECOS Network: Community Resources Network Ireland (CRNI) is a network for community-based reuse, repair and recycling organisations with a vision to enable the entire community to benefit from the social, environmental and economic value of all reusable resources.

Would you like to get to know them better? Read our short Q&A with CRNI Executive Claire Downey!

Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself to the network? What is the mission of CRNI and which are your main activities at the moment?

Claire Downey: CRNI is a network that supports social enterprises in reuse, repair and recycling. We do this by supporting our members to grow and thrive and by mainstreaming the sector through policy, advocacy and research. Our vision is an Ireland where the word ‘waste’ does not exist and where our entire community benefits from the social, environmental and economic value of all reusable resources. We are currently involved in research to pilot separate collection of textiles and textile reuse and recycling options and have previously worked on developing a quality mark for the reuse sector in Ireland and developing a methodology to measure reuse.

Q: What is your main interest in joining the ECOS network?

Claire Downey: With the rapid evolution of the ecodesign regulations and the broadening of ECOS’ scope of work, we feel there are many areas where we can benefit from ECOS’ expertise in better understanding the impact of EU developments on reuse locally. We also look forward to connecting with other organisations working on the same themes, and learning from them.

Here at ECOS, we are very much looking forward to cooperating with CRNI!
