International Electrotechnical Committee 80th General Meeting
Frankfurt was the host city of this year’s annual International Electrotechnical Committee General Meeting, which brought together more than 3500 technical experts and other stakeholders to develop and discuss standardisation initiatives, strategy and related topics from the 10 – 14 October 2016.
Among the attendees, ECOS was invited to provide presentations in a high-level policy event, workshop, and several international technical committees during the week. ECOS Deputy Director took part in European Commission hosted event on the ‘Joint Initiative on Standardisation’ (JIS) and to promote the launch of the 15 Actions of the Joint Initiative, including encouraging engagement with international, European and national standardisation organisations, and other interested stakeholders. ECOS Policy Officer Thomas Willson gave a presentation during the World Standards Cooperation (WSC) Academic Day, on the relation between standards, sustainability and education, and contributed to a panel discussion with participants from the UNECE, ANEC, Fujisawa and ISO/TC 68 ‘Financial Services’. He called for the promotion of societal stakeholders in standardisation to improve the quality of standards, as well as for universities to delve into greater depth on the education for standardisation.
In addition, Thomas Willson gave introductory presentations of ECOS to and IEC/TC 89 ‘Fire Hazard Testing’, to support its recent applications to request participation in standardisation activities of the two international activities.
