Watch it again! Our hybrid event – Unnoticed and ungoverned: How nanomaterials are slipping through the cracks

Together with our members BUND, we organised a hybrid session focusing on nanomaterials! Our event brought together leading experts to discuss the role of civil society in shaping the regulatory frameworks of nano governance.

As industry innovation outpaces regulation, governments must adopt a precautionary approach towards nanomaterial governance, support the development of a comprehensive knowledge base about the impacts of nanomaterials, and ensure a wide range of stakeholders is included when developing the much-needed regulatory frameworks for nanomaterial development, use, and end-of-life.

Our event brought together expert speakers from the European Commission, civil society, and researchers.

Over two panel discussions, we explored how nanomaterials are currently governed, with an emphasis on test guidelines, as well as the much-needed participation of civil society in the process.

The discussion included the following topics:

  • Why nanomaterials governance is important
  • What nanomaterials guidelines we have at hand today and how public authorities and standardisers apply them
  • What to keep in mind to ensure nanomaterials are safe
  • What role the civil society sector can and should play in the process
