ECOS & ECODES event: Standardisation as a driver of environmental protection and industrial competitiveness
Join ECOS and our Spanish Member ECODES for an event in Madrid on 20 October 2026! Drawing on concrete examples, the event will address some of the key challenges surrounding standardisation: ensuring that standards are consistent with climate and environmental ambition, guaranteeing balanced participation of different stakeholders in their development, and examining their impact on strategic sectors such as energy or construction.
Europe’s green transition does not depend solely on legislation. Standards play a fundamental role in translating environmental objectives into action: they establish measurement and testing methods, methodologies for calculating emissions, sustainability criteria, and requirements that can influence certification, market access, and investment decisions.
Standardisation has a strategic dimension for both environmental protection and industrial competitiveness. In a context shaped by the review of the European Standardisation System, the European Green Deal, the Clean Industrial Deal, and the debate on strategic autonomy, it is particularly important to ensure that technical standards are aligned with environmental objectives and the public interest.
Our workshop, co-organised with our Spanish Member ECODES, aims to foster dialogue between civil society, public administrations, standardisers, and indsutry partners, identifying opportunities to improve transparency, balance, and participation in standards-making.
