Ecodesign & Energy Labelling – “Package approach” considered by Commission

The implementation of the Ecodesign & Energy Labelling policies during the Commission President Juncker until now can be summarised by ‘continuous delays and a historically low number of adopted measures’.

Measures on big savers such as commercial refrigeration, electric motors, industrial fans, have been stalled for several years without reason.

The latest news is that the EU Commission is putting together a package of measures to release by the end of Juncker’s mandate. This package will include at least the revised Ecodesign & Energy Labelling measures for six products:

  • Displays
  • Lighting
  • Domestic cold appliances
  • Washing machines
  • Dishwashers
  • Washer-dryers

For the first time, the Commission proposals include a strong focus on resource efficiency aspects. In 2018, ECOS will work towards the consolidation of these ambitious repair and recycling measures, the reinforcement of the energy efficiency levels, but also push the Commission to use the finalise the adoption of measures for big savers which have been delayed for too long.
