Call for Tender: Scientific Analysis – Nanotechnology

Environmental NGOs ECOS and CIEL and environmental consultancy Öko-Institut are working together on a project to support civil society organisations in relation to nanomaterial development. The main objective of the project is to ensure the adoption of a precaution-based regulatory framework for the responsible development of nanotechnologies in the EU and beyond, based on adequate risk assessment methodologies and risk management tools.

Activities focus on a number of key fora where scientific, technical and political discussions influence developments in EU regulatory governance of nanomaterials. Beyond official European Union activities relating specifically to EU legislation, these fora include CEN and ISO standardisation technical committees, and the OECD Working Party on Manufactured Nanomaterials (WPMN).

Through this tender, the project team seeks to have a deeper analysis of the dossier data in order to assess its usefulness for the regulatory risk management of MNM. We particularly wish to focus on human health aspects, to supplement existing analysis and upcoming studies that will be published during the course of the delivery of the work of this tender. These studies can be made available to the contractors as required.
This analysis should provide a horizontal assessment of all 11 dossiers and a more detailed assessment of up to 2 specific nanomaterials, to be proposed by the contractor and agreed with the project partners.

The full tender specification is available here

Tenderers are requested to submit a proposal by Friday 27 May.

ECOS is co-funded by the European Commission and EFTA
