AccESS – Breaking barriers for environmental NGOs in standardisation

On 21 February, we launched our new pan-European pilot project which aims to increase the capacity and ability of national environmental NGOs to participate in the European Standardisation System.

Over the course of two years, ECOS and the project partners will test and formalise new collaborative working practices for environmental NGO participation in standards development. The project partners consist of nine ECOS members: BBLV (Belgium), DOOR (Croatia), EcoCity (Greece), IEW (Belgium), Legambiente (Italy), SNF (Sweden), Terra Cypria (Cyprus), SNS (UK) and ZERO (Portugal).

This strengthened collaboration with national environmental NGOs will help increase ECOS’ expertise and influence in European standards development. National members will benefit from hands-on experience with the standards development process and help other environmental NGOs with their future engagement in standardisation, both at national and European level. AccESS will not only promote environmental NGO participation in standardisation, but emphasise their added value in standards development processes.

Thank you to the European Commission and EFTA for funding this project.
