Call for experts – Circular, bio-based construction products

ECOS is looking for experts in the field of circular bio-based construction to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.

Deadline to apply: 9 August 2024

ECOS is looking for expert(s) with an in-depth knowledge of:

  • Construction sector standards and policies at EU and/or national and international level, including solid timber product standards (such as EN 14081-1, EN338, and Eurocode 5).
  • The environmental, technical, economic, and social challenges, opportunities, and benefits of circular use of bio-based construction materials, particularly related to European standards and legislation.

ECOS will prioritise experts who can provide support related to the reuse and recycling of timber products and related standards. This includes structural timber and other wood products used in flooring, panelling, and other high-impact and high-circularity potential applications. Knowledge of other bio-based materials such as hemp and straw is considered an asset.

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth technical/scientific knowledge in the topic area. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to environmental NGO values and have proven written and oral communication and negotiation skills. Experience with and understanding of the policy context and standardisation developments in the subject area will be considered a strong asset. Fluency in English and willingness to travel are required.

The nominated experts will:

  • Participate in relevant technical meetings of CEN and ISO to promote ECOS position.
  • Prepare technical input through official comments and position papers.
  • Report to and liaise with the relevant ECOS Programme Manager.
  • Exchange information with ECOS member organisations and other experts when needed.

ECOS offers

  • A daily fee for preparation of meetings, participation, and reporting, as well as other relevant tasks.
  • Reimbursement of travel costs.
  • Per diem to cover accommodation and subsistence costs.

Deadline to apply: 9 August 2024
