Energy Label Revision delayed

The ECOS-EEB Coolproducts campaign continues to provide technical and political assistance to the revision of the Energy Label, working closely alongside the campaign’s national partners and the European consumer organisations to have a positive impact on this policy reform.

Reverting back to an A-G scale as soon as possible is crucial. Each costly delay results in missed opportunities, which we have warned about in our discussion paper.

Coolproducts also urge for the establishment of a product database as it will empower consumers to choose efficient products and have more control over their energy bills. Further, a database will significantly improve market surveillance activities, allowing national authorities to better check for compliance through product testing.

The final vote, which was due to take place in the ITRE committee on the 24th May, has been delayed in the hope of reaching compromises on controversial points, including the database. Ideally following the vote, the three European institutions will start negotiations, with an aim to reach an agreement by the end of the year.
