New standardisation developments expected on adaptation to climate change

ECOS welcomes the decision of the CEN-CENELEC Coordination Group on Adaptation to Climate Change (ACC-CG) to extend its activities to additional infrastructure-related standards. In particular new standards are expected on adaptation options such as green roofs and nature-based solutions.

ECOS has long been calling on the Group to cover more infrastructures and managed to convince its members to extend the activities undertaken after having set-up a dialogue between the European Commission, the CEN Strategic Advisory Board on the Environment and the ACC-CG. Among others, the ACC-CG is responsible for responding to the European Commission standardisation request in support of the EU strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change

Until now, the Group, which includes ECOS, has developed a Guide for addressing climate change adaptation in standards (CEN-CENELEC Guide 32) and started coordinating the revision of several standards on buildings, transport and energy so as to promote more climate resilient infrastructures throughout the EU.
