ECOS welcomes our new Executive Director!
ECOS is thrilled to announce that Justin Wilkes is its new Executive Director. He will take up his new role as of 11 March 2019, taking over from the former ECOS Director Laura Degallaix.
Justin brings over 20 years of professional experience to the role, having led national, European and international advocacy campaigns on environment and energy issues for environmental organisations, the renewables sector, and a green politician. Justin most recently spent nearly 4 years as ECOS Deputy Director. He will not only ensure continuity in ECOS but also, more importantly, bring new energy and vision. Justin looks forward to ensuring ECOS plays an important role in the transition to a clean and circular economy that respects planetary boundaries by promoting environmental interests in the development of ambitious standards, environmental laws and political strategies.
Justin looks forward to driving forward ECOS’ work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in particular from industry and refrigerants, and on environmental investments and adaptation to climate change. In addition, he will strive to make clean tech solutions more easily accessible to the market and consumers. He will continue to drive ECOS’ engagement making the circular economy a reality. From plastics through to household products and IT equipment, industry needs to be more circular. Therefore, ambitious design requirements for products in a circular economy will be a key priority for Justin, and he will drive ECOS’ push for ambitious new circular economy thinking on durability, repair, reuse or recycling, and avoiding toxic substances. And not forgetting that all such efforts should be supported by ambitious global environmental management standards.

We are very much looking forward to working together for more ambitious and greener standards, and a more inclusive standardisation system!
