  • Call for experts – PFAS in soils and biosolids

ECOS is looking for experts in the field of PFAS detection, analysis and reduction in soils and biosolids to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.

  • How can standards help protect us from harmful chemicals?

Without standard testing methods, it can be difficult to keep harmful products off the market as testing procedures and results will differ between EU Member States. Chemical bans or restrictions are also often delayed when standard testing methods are not in place.

  • Zero tolerance for harmful chemicals in children’s products

The European Commission’s proposal on the Toy Safety Regulation was a step in the right direction, especially the possibility to restrict hormone-disrupting chemicals for human health; but in our joint letter to Executive Vice-President Séjourné, we emphasise the importance of restrictions on PFAS (‘forever chemicals’) and bisphenols to protect children - the most vulnerable in our society.

  • Joint letter – Restrict hazardous substances in the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

Ahead of the first trilogue for the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), we are asking negotiators to address hazardous substances in packaging materials in the upcoming discussions and maintain the ambition of the EU’s Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability.

  • ECOS factsheet – Blueprint for an F-gas-free future: The EU’s new F-Gas Regulation

F-gases – some of the most used gases you’ve never heard of – threaten our planet and our health. Commonly used in refrigeration, air conditioning, insulation, electronics manufacturing, and switchgear, F-gases have significant global warming potential. Some also break down into forever chemicals (PFAS), posing risks when they leak into the environment. The good news: F-gases will be phased out in the EU by 2050! How will they be phased out? Find out in our new factsheet.

  • F-gas regulation to be voted on by European Parliament: four key points at stake

In April 2022, the European Commission presented its proposal for a revised Regulation on Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (F-gas Regulation). The proposal has since been processed by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU. The ENVI committee has put forward its cross-party compromise amendments, and on 30 March the European Parliament will adopt its position in plenary.
