  • Bringing EU forestry closer to nature

EU forests have suffered significant degradation due to intensive forestry practices and the escalating impacts of climate change. Alarmingly, harmful practices have sometimes been certified as "sustainable," undermining genuine efforts to protect forest ecosystems. Closer-to-nature forestry provides a viable ecological alternative to conventional forestry by prioritising biodiversity, climate resilience, and ecosystem health. Learn more in our position paper.

  • Position paper – Assessing the greenhouse gas dynamics of forests and wood products

In this paper, we explain the role of the ISO 13391 standard series on greenhouse gas dynamics of wood and wood-based products concerning the need for better GHG information on wood products and forests. Our goal is to provide a constructive critique, based on ECOS participating in the process. We consider the progress it offers and its shortcomings, as well as how it can be used or misused.
