ECOS is looking for experts in the field of fishing gear to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.
We’re excited to announce that registration is open for our conference in November. We will be discussing construction and green public procurement - join us for this hybrid event! This month we have also been expanding the work of our ECOS Africa office. We are working with local and international partners to leverage policies and standards to address plastics pollution in the region. We are also celebrating a new standard for the circular design of fishing gear; learn more in our September newsletter!
ECOS has been an active participant in the development of new European standards for the ‘Circular design of fishing gear and aquaculture equipment’. These standards will help to reduce plastics, microplastics, and other waste in our oceans that harm wildlife.
For European Maritime Day 2022, ECOS highlights that marine plastic litter should first and foremost be tackled at the source. Plastic fishing gear must become more circular and have a much lower environmental impact.
