  • EU agrees to clean up dirty detergents

Press release | EU negotiators have reached a provisional agreement on the revised Detergents Regulation. This updated law improves on previous measures. However, it does not do enough on substances that do the most harm to human and environmental health — including (micro)plastics, phosphates and phosphorus, allergens, and endocrine-disruptors.

  • An opportunity to reduce the harmful effects of detergents

The ongoing revision of the Detergent Regulation offers an important opportunity to improve the requirements for detergents in the European market and therefore minimise harmful effects on human health and the environment. We urge co-legislators to adopt an ambitious text to improve water quality, protect human health, and decrease microplastic release.

  • ECOS asks on detergents Trilogues: Detergents Regulation Revision

Detergents have a significant impact on the environment, such as water pollution and reliance upon plastic packaging. Furthermore, detergents still contain substances that have an impact on human health. The upcoming trilogue discussions for the Detergent Regulation offer an important opportunity to improve the requirements on detergents in the European market and minimise the effects on human health and the environment.
