Ecodesign, an EU success story, is expanding. More products than ever will soon be designed from the outset with sustainability in mind — a development that will be good for the environment and consumers. But how? And when? The Ecodesigned4LIFE project consortium, ECOS, BEUC, and ANEC, break it down.
ECOS has been approved as a liaison to ISO’s committee on consumer policy, also known as COPOLCO. In a world increasingly attuned to the importance of environmental protection and sustainability, the connection between consumer concerns and the environment is stronger than ever. Our new role at ISO will help to reinforce it – on a global scale.
The EU’s Empowering Consumers Directive [1] will prohibit climate claims that are based on carbon offsetting – successfully achieving its goal of empowering consumers to make environmentally sound decisions. Until now, companies have been able to potentially mislead consumers with claims based only on offsetting. This legislation will be a significant measure against greenwashing.
ECOS is co-funded by the European Commission and EFTA
