The repairability of vehicles is declining - and we want to change that. ECOS has signed a joint statement on repair in the proposed EU regulation on circularity requirements for vehicle design and on management of end-of-life vehicles. We call for stronger provisions for repair and reuse to strengthen consumers’ choice, local jobs and businesses, and European strategic autonomy, as well as ensure compliance with the waste hierarchy and reduce environmental strain.
To increase the circularity of the automotive sector we need to bridge design and end-of-life vehicle treatment and drive the demand for circular and low-carbon materials. In our joint letter - with representatives from waste management, recycling, automotive suppliers, and NGOs - we call on EU lawmakers to uphold the ambitious standards set by the European Commission’s proposed Regulation on End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVR).
ECOS has been an active participant in the development of new European standards for the ‘Circular design of fishing gear and aquaculture equipment’. These standards will help to reduce plastics, microplastics, and other waste in our oceans that harm wildlife.
