LIFE ComplianceServices: Project will support companies to comply with EU energy labelling and ecodesign rules

EU Ecodesign and energy labelling legislation is an important part of the EU's energy efficiency policy framework. This legislation helps to increase the energy efficiency of products and keeps consumers informed about energy consumption levels. It covers a growing number of products, which must all comply with relevant rules. Enter the LIFE ComplianceServices project

The project

The goal of the LIFE ComplianceServices project is to support key market actors in understanding and correctly applying EU energy labelling and ecodesign requirements.

The partners

Alongside 13 other consortium members, ECOS has joined forces with the Austrian Energy Agency for the LIFE ComplianceServices project. The project is co-funded by the European Union’s LIFE Programme.

The problem and the solution

EU ecodesign and energy labelling legislation saves millions of tons of energy by making products more efficient and empowering consumers to buy more sustainable products. It is essential for the EU to reach its energy efficiency goals. The legislation covers a growing family of products, so it must be updated regularly to reflect market and technology developments.

Many market segments such as tumble dryers and heating products, have a high non-compliance rate with EU ecodesign and energy labelling rules due to missing, incorrect, inconsistent, or insufficient product information. The LIFE ComplianceServices project will provide a toolbox of guidance and training tools to support compliance.

ECOS and LIFE ComplianceServices

Standardisation is essential for correctly interpreting and applying EU ecodesign and energy labelling regulations – ensuring unified practices and lower rates of non-compliance on the market. ECOS has worked on both standardisation and ecodesign and energy labelling standards for many years. We offer technical expertise to the project on these matters, as well as being the leader of a work package on project monitoring and replicability for the future.

The LIFE ComplianceServices project will help to reinforce our work in ecodesign and energy labelling. It will also improve our outreach to important stakeholders, such as policymakers, trade associations, and other NGOs.

Together, we will contribute to the EU’s energy efficiency goals, guide consumers, and make sure that legislation is properly implemented.
