ECOS is hiring! – Programme Manager, Plastics

We are looking for a highly motivated Programme Manager to work on the development of policy and standards to address plastic pollution.

The role will focus on advocating for an absolute reduction of our plastic footprint in key sectors such as packaging, electronics, cars and textiles through public facing campaigns and contributions to technical discussions. You will use your campaigning and negotiation skills to influence policy makers and standards writers to unlock the potential of reuse and refill, reduce microplastics emissions, tackle greenwashing in the plastics sector, and remove substances of concern from plastics.

 

Your main tasks will be to:

  • Promote environmental interests in the proposal, development and revision of international and European policies and standards in the field of plastics, in cooperation with ECOS nominated experts and member organisations
  • Drive ECOS engagement in the Rethink Plastic alliance as well as the global Break Free From Plastic movement which ECOS is a member of
  • Select, manage, and oversee technical experts to assist our work
  • Represent ECOS in relevant meetings, such as meetings of standardisation organisations or European institutions, UN fora, and workshops, conferences and other platforms
  • Engage and collaborate with our members, other NGOs and relevant stakeholders
  • Develop regular updates, briefings, positions and publications for our target audiences
  • Prepare funding applications and ensure proper reporting to funders

 

Skills and experience required:

  • University degree in environmental sciences, social sciences, or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience on environment-related topics
  • Familiarity with plastics-related policies at EU and/or international level
  • Experience in developing & implementing strategies to achieve change, ideally through coalitions or campaigns
  • Commitment to the values, vision and mission of environmental NGOs
  • Strong analytical skills & ability to translate technical information into digestible information
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent writing, communication, networking and negotiation skills
  • Fluent English, other languages an asset

  • An open-ended Belgian contract with a competitive salary package between €3.200 – €4.130 according to the ECOS salary scale and depending on skills and relevant experience of the candidate
