ECOS increases global reach with new Africa office
Environmental issues are interconnected and unconstrained by borders, but priorities differ based on geography and context. We need global efforts that ensure environmental ambition – something ECOS has been progressively working towards as part of our international strategy. We have just opened a new office in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on the African region. International growth will allow us to collaborate closer with like-minded organisations in different parts of the world and strengthen the environmental voice in the development of policies, standards, and laws.

Our work is grounded in technical expertise and bolstered by a network of members and experts. By focusing on standards, policies, and laws simultaneously, we take in the full picture and create an impact by ensuring the environmental voice is heard in all relevant discussions, including such globally important priorities as the climate crisis, biodiversity, plastics, waste, circular economy, and energy – among others.
We are also an influential organisation within the global standardisation system, including through ISO (the International Organisation for Standardisation), IEC (the International Electrotechnical Commission) and ITU (the International Telecommunication Union), as well as regionally through the European Standardisation System (CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI).
Driving environmental change in the African region and beyond
With our new Africa office, we aim to increase our international reach and drive positive environmental change in different parts of the world.
As our work begins, we are very keen to engage and cooperate with environmental and societal stakeholders in the African region, creating impactful alliances, and strengthening participation and capacity in developing standards and policies. Enhancing our network with new members, experts, and partners will allow us to coordinate on common environmental challenges and solutions.
The ECOS Africa office officially opened in January 2024, but had been many months in the making. It is a step towards strengthening our impact globally, and an exciting new chapter that will bring new, rich ideas and perspectives.
We are very much looking forward to working towards a healthy and clean environment protected by robust rules that respect nature and its resources – all over the world.
