Call for Experts – Domestic Cooking Appliances

ECOS is looking for experts for domestic cooking appliances to represent and defend environmental interests for the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide technical and scientific inputs and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.

Fewer than 50% of Europeans use electricity to cook food, despite it being a healthier, more secure, and more efficient energy source than polluting alternatives such as biomass, gas, or other fossil fuels. We actively push for ambitious energy efficiency requirements for cooking appliances that will reduce energy consumption and environmental impact, improve indoor air quality, and foster technological innovation, in policy and standards.

The nominated expert will represent ECOS in the standardisation work related to the products under Ecodesign, gas and electric ovens and hobs. The works of the technical committees, where the expert will be involved, include methods for measuring critical parameters of the performance of appliances used in households or commercially. This includes related aspects such as energy efficiency, emissions limits, appliance classification, accessibility, usability, reparability, and conditions for providing information at the point of sale.

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth technical and scientific knowledge in one or more of the aforementioned areas.

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of the European standardisation process

The nominated experts will:

  • Participate in technical meetings (possibly of ISO and/or CEN) to promote ECOS position;
  • Prepare technical input through official comments and contributions to ECOS position papers and publications
  • Report to and liaise with the responsible ECOS Programme Manager and Programme Officer;
  • Exchange information with ECOS member organisations and other experts when needed.

ECOS offers:

  • A competitive daily fee for preparation of meetings, participation and reporting, as well as other relevant tasks;
  • Reimbursement of travel costs;
  • Per diem to cover accommodation and subsistence costs.

Please send your CV and cover letter indicating relevant areas of expertise according to the above, outlining your motivation, and demonstrating your suitability to support and represent ECOS to Fernando Tartaglia (fernando.tartaglia@ecostandard.org) by 31 October 2024 COB. Candidates are invited to apply as soon as possible as applications will be assessed by the secretariat on a rolling basis, applying ECOS procurement policy. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
