Call for experts – Plastic recycling

ECOS is looking for experts in the field of Plastic Recycling to represent and defend environmental interests in the development of standards and related policies. Our experts provide us with technical and scientific input and represent ECOS in standardisation processes and multi-stakeholder discussions.

Application deadline: 6 January 2025

ECOS works to reduce the global plastic footprint and ensure clean material loops in a circular economy by engaging in international policy and standards development. We are an official observer to the negotiations on an international plastic treaty, and advocate for ambitious EU policies, laws and standards to reduce plastic pollution throughout the supply chain, while avoiding regrettable substitutions. We are involved in various standardisation committees with relevance to plastics and plastic recycling in CEN (e.g. in CEN/TC 249/WG 11 and CEN/TC 261/SC 4/WG 10) and CENELEC, as an Annex III organisation, as well as in ISO (e.g. in CEN/TC 61/SC 14/WG 5) and IEC.

Interested candidates should be able to demonstrate in-depth technical and scientific knowledge on one or more of the following areas: plastic production, design for recycling of plastic products (e.g. plastic packaging), plastic waste collection and sorting, plastic recycling technologies (e.g. mechanical, physical, chemical, and/or enzymatic), recycled plastic content verification, related European and international standards.

Candidates should demonstrate strong commitment to environmental NGO values and have proven written and oral communication and negotiation skills. Fluency in English is required and willingness to travel may be required.

The nominated experts will, depending on the available budget:

  • Participate in technical meetings of CEN (and possibly ISO) meetings to promote ECOS position.
  • Prepare technical input through official comments and contribution to ECOS position papers.
  • Report to and liaise with the responsible ECOS Programme Manager.
  • Exchange information with ECOS member organisations and other experts when needed.

ECOS offers:

  • A daily fee for preparation of meetings, participation and reporting, as well as other relevant tasks.
  • Reimbursement of travel costs.
  • Per diem to cover accommodation and subsistence costs.

Please send your CV and cover letter outlining your motivation and demonstrating your suitability to support and represent ECOS to Fanny Rateau <fanny.rateau[at]ecostandard.org> by 6 January 2025 COB. Applications will be assessed by the secretariat on a rolling basis, applying ECOS procurement policy. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
