New standard on preparation for reuse misses its objective

CENELEC members have just approved a new standard on preparation for reuse of WEEE (EN 50614), which was developed in response to a European Commission’s standardisation request (M/518).

After seeing our contribution largely ignored during the standard’s development process, ECOS issued a non-favourable opinion during the vote. In our view, the standard will not enable to ensure adequate separation and collection of reusable WEEE, nor does it adequately promote preparing for reuse activities. ECOS is now awaiting a formal answer to our opinion from the CENELEC Technical Committee in charge.
