ECOS makes recommendations to CENELEC

ECOS Secretary-General Laura Degallaix made recommendations to the members of CENELEC at CENELEC Technical Board meeting on 9 October 2013.

ECOS Secretary-General Laura Degallaix made recommendations to the members of CENELEC at CENELEC Technical Board meeting on 9 October 2013.

She stressed the role of electrotechnical standards in helping move towards a competitive and green EU economy and the importance to ensure transparency and balanced stakeholder representation in the standardisation process. She highlighted the added value of environmental NGOs and other societal stakeholders’ participation for reflecting the interests of end-users and the environment and guaranteeing legitimacy to the system.

She called for CENELEC members to ensure the mainstreaming of environmental aspects in electrotechnical standardisation including through making CENELEC strategic Technical Committee CLC/TC 111X adopt a more proactive and strategic role. She also urged CENELEC to encourage its members to make every efforts to reduce or eliminate barriers to effective NGOs’ participation in standardisation at national level, including participation fees.
