‘House of Civil Society’ calls for more inclusive standardisation system

eescECOS warmly welcomes the Opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on the future of standardisation. In this Opinion, the ‘house of civil society’ once again calls for greater transparency and an improved representation of civil society in the standardisation system.

The Committee calls for:

  • better access to standardisation work for NGOs and SMEs
  • the creation of a specific dedicated partnership category within the standardisation organisations
  • standards to contribute to ensure an increasingly higher level of consumer, worker and environmental protection
  • support for the Joint Initiative on Standardisation under the EU Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation funding programme.

This Opinion reiterates the call of the EESC for standards that can meet the needs of civil society alongside economic interests.
