Following the successful adoption of the F-Gas Standardisation Request, CEN-CENELEC held a first meeting on the 22nd January with interested experts to develop a work programme for the anticipated standardisation activities to send to the European Commission. The F-Gas Standardisation Request requires CEN-CENELEC to develop an assessment study, which targets obstacles to flammable refrigerants in European standards, and to produce a standardisation deliverable that resolves any identified barriers to the use of those refrigerants no later than November 2020.
During the meeting, experts discussed the type of deliverable that would be produced (EN standard or Technical Specification), the time-frame for the execution, and whether the work should be undertaken by a new technical body or an existing body. ECOS participated to offer guidance on the type of deliverable that could be produced and encourage the creation of a new Working Group to ensure transparency and ease of participation for stakeholders.
The upcoming meeting of CEN/TC 182 ‘Refrigerating systems, safety and environmental requirements’ on the 6-7 March will formally approve where the work is handled and who will lead the activities.
