On 20 september, AccESS partners met in Zagreb for their 4th and penultimate project coordination meeting. After more than 1,5 year of active engagement in standardisation, the partners shared the experiences gathered from commenting on standards, developing national expert networks, engaging with their respective National Standards Bodies, or attempting to train colleagues and fellow NGOs on the environmental relevance of standardisation.
In the coming months, ECOS and AccESS partners will start drawing up best practice examples for environmental NGOs and civil society in general who would like to become involved in standardisation. The conclusions reached as part of the project will serve as a basis for the development of practical guidance documents, training courses, communications materials and other tools to foster improved civil society participation in creating standards.
Learnings and best practice from the AccESS project will also feed into the programme and discussions of the ECOS event: Access granted? Fostering the participation of civil society in standardisation at national level. The conference will be held on 5 December in Brussels, and registrations will open very soon.
