Public Consultation: Preparation of a new Renewable Energy Directive

Energy
ECOS submitted input to the Public Consultation on a new Renewable Energy Directive for the period of 2020-2030, which was included in the European Commission’s 2013 REFIT programme. Currently, the Directive is not considered suitable to achieve at least a 27% share of renewables by 2030.

While welcoming the achievements of the current Renewable Energy Directive, for increasing shares of renewable energy sources (RES) in the European energy mix, ECOS raised concerns about the lack of a sufficiently long-term perspective, premature balancing responsibilities for RES and achieving targets for renewable energy in transport in any future modification of legislation. ECOS suggested a continuation of legal targets for Member States, long-term vision and coherent short-term goals and On-Board Meters for electric vehicles, for the better accounting of renewable energy consumption in the transport sector.
